ARTS & CRAFTS// A Flock of Cranes.
Every once in a while I like to paint neutral pieces to decorate my house. I mean, why buy a print when I can paint it myself? My living room was painted with sea foam stripes last year, and aside from various pieces of matching furniture, the room lacked a unifying secondary color. I decided that the complementary color to these stripes were going to be an ocher or a mustard yellow, so I set about planning a painting for the blank space between the boudoir and the TV.
What I decided to do was paint miniature flowers all over a large sheet of cardboard- kind of like a wall paper. I started painting from the right hand corner in a custom mixed yellow, and a few hours later, realized that the yellow flowers seemed 1) kind of girly and 2) a bit boring. So I changed it up and made it into a sort of gradient starting with yellow flowers and ending with brick colored flowers at the bottom.
I wanted a flock of birds flying over the flowers in a silhouette but as I started thinking about this concept, my mind started shifting toward a more creative approach: what if the flock of birds were origami cranes?
By day three, my painting finally came to fruition- those flowers took over 12 hours to paint, and I am so glad I am done.

UPDATED: It’s on my wall now- I’m still not sure what to do with that gap of space under the painting where the chair is. All my TV cables dangle out of that outlet so I have to find a chic way to cover it to keep the room nice looking.
